Managing Stress and Anxiety: 4 Ways to Slow Down.

Some days it is tough to relax at the end of the day. Instead, you may find yourself completely absorbed with a problem in the office or something else. In such moments we need to use proper unwinding techniques better suited to help you relax and feel less anxious. Here are four ways to manage your stress at the end of each day.

Tip 1: Make time to unwind at the end of each day

Ask yourself, “what helps me slow down?”, “what helps me achieve a level of relaxation?”. Is it going for a walk, gardening, yoga, or meditation that helps you unwind? It will help if you find activities that work for YOU. Some people work out at the end of each day and find it helpful, while others like to read a book or go for a slow walk. So what activities help you relax? Below are some proven suggestion as a relaxation technique.

Tip 2: Connect with others and avoid isolation

the presence of nurturing support seems to be crucial when processing a challenging day. If you can’t shake off the negative feelings, consider calling a safe and nurturing friend or family member. Let them know in advance that you need their support. This will help them be extra supportive and nurturing towards you.

Tip 3: Avoid alcohol & drug consumption

De-stressing does not have to come in the form of numbing ourselves. Using stimulants regularly to achieve relaxation is considered an unhealthy coping style. Many Americans use alcohol, weed, and other stimulants to feel calm. In reality, they are experiencing emotional numbness, which can be problematic as their stress level increases in the future.

Tip 4: Get more help

too many of us suffer silently, and the thought of seeking help doesn’t even cross our minds. You might be thinking, “how do I know if I need professional help? The answer is simple. If your daily functioning, such as diet, sleep, relationships, and work, is impacted by anxiety and stress, seeking professional help can significantly reduce your challenges.

Getting help is the wisest and bravest thing you can do to feel less overwhelmed and less stressed. Consider reaching out to a therapist near you and start your journey to health and happiness.
