Nancy Kuhlman, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker • Illinois LCSW 149.025399
A warm, steady place to set things down. I help adults work through anxiety, depression, grief, and big life changes, at a pace that feels right, in person in Wheaton or online across Illinois.
Anxiety, depression, grief, or a big life change?
If you’ve been feeling crabby all the time and you’re not sure why, or you keep calling yourself lazy because you just can’t get motivated, you’re not alone. Maybe you feel like you’re behind everyone else, and honestly, you’re tired of feeling this way. You want something to change.
Many of my clients feel stuck when they first come in. They have real strengths, they just can’t see them yet, and a big part of what we do together is finding them.
I work with adults, mostly 25 and up. People come to me for all kinds of reasons, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, big life changes, attachment issues, and the things that come up in relationships and family. Whatever you’re carrying, my hope is that you feel okay bringing it in.
When we work together, I draw from several therapeutic approaches, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and self-compassion, and I always keep your history and what matters to you in mind. Our sessions are pretty relaxed. We start with whatever’s on your mind that day, look at what’s underneath it, and tie it back to what you actually want for yourself.
A lot of how we feel comes down to our thoughts, especially the quiet, critical ones we barely notice. When you start to catch those and learn to be a little gentler with yourself, things really can start to feel different. That, in my experience, is usually where change begins.
Here’s something I want you to know: I get a little nervous meeting someone new too. It’s completely normal to not know what to expect, even if you’ve been to therapy before. We’ll figure it out together, no pressure.
When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me outside with family and friends, somewhere with plants, water, and birds. I love eating outdoors, traveling somewhere new, and the way the seasons change here.
I see clients in person here in Wheaton, and across Illinois by telehealth.
If you’d like to work with me, the next step is easy. You can schedule a free 15-minute call with our care coordinator to learn about my availability and book your first session.
