Autumn Wiborg, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor • Illinois LPC 178.019183
A grounded, honest place to find your next step. I help adults move through big transitions, from divorce or a career change to single parenthood, in person in Wheaton or online across Illinois.
When everything feels tangled
Maybe you are standing at a big fork in the road and you just need to know the next step to take. Or you are caught in the same loop of sadness, disappointment, or stress, and you are worn out from going around it again. It might even be hard to put what you are feeling into words, so the people closest to you do not always get it.
The people who tend to find me are right at that starting point, or starting over. They are curious and open to change, and they want life to feel more purposeful. They just are not sure yet which path to choose.
Most of the adults I see are going through big shifts, whether that is college challenges, a career change, single parenthood, divorce, or supporting a loved one through addiction in the family. A lot of what we work on together is anxiety, depression, relationship issues, career struggles, and parenting.
Think of your emotions like a tangled ball of yarn. Together we slow down and untangle it, so you can picture the life you actually want, then set goals that stretch you a little past your comfort zone but are still within reach.
Our sessions start easy, with a warm, casual check-in, and then the floor is yours. If you are not sure where to start, we look back at the goals we set and see how you are feeling. I draw on person-centered work, which gives you room to feel your emotions and reflect, and CBT when you want clear, practical things to practice between sessions. For couples, I turn to the Gottmans and emotion-focused therapy to look at how feelings shape what happens between you.
I will be honest with you, I can be fairly direct, always with warmth. Once we are clear on what you want, I am happy to share what I notice and point you toward a practical next step. A lot of people find that refreshing. And if a slower, quieter pace feels better to you, that is good to know going in so we can honor it.
What I know to be true is that change grows out of the relationship we build together. When it is honest and open, that is what makes healing possible. I believe anyone can get unstuck and make lasting change when they really want things to be different. It takes a little bravery to ask for help, and we go from there.
Outside of work, most of my time goes to my family and our dog, Arwen. We travel, build Legos, garden, and find adventures around town. I also love long rides on my bike, catching up with friends, and hunting for thrift-store treasures.
Wheaton is home base for in-person sessions, and telehealth reaches everywhere else in Illinois.
Starting is simpler than it might feel. Just schedule a free 15-minute call with our care coordinator to talk through my availability and book your first session.
